Drugs used in psychiatry mainly belong to five classes of drugs:<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><br \/>\n<div  class='togglecontainer av-av_toggle_container-8e0c6e39d39b619a829887bd54fff3ed  avia-builder-el-3  el_after_av_textblock  avia-builder-el-last  toggle_close_all' >\n<section class='av_toggle_section av-av_toggle-0d431b8bf84dac1dcfdb8b1a45e4dc15'  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/CreativeWork\" ><div role=\"tablist\" class=\"single_toggle\" data-tags=\"{All} \"  ><p id='toggle-toggle-id-1' data-fake-id='#toggle-id-1' class='toggler  av-title-above '  itemprop=\"headline\"  role='tab' tabindex='0' aria-controls='toggle-id-1' data-slide-speed=\"200\" data-title=\"Antidepressants\" data-title-open=\"\" data-aria_collapsed=\"Click to expand: Antidepressants\" data-aria_expanded=\"Click to collapse: Antidepressants\">Antidepressants<span class=\"toggle_icon\"><span class=\"vert_icon\"><\/span><span class=\"hor_icon\"><\/span><\/span><\/p><div id='toggle-id-1' aria-labelledby='toggle-toggle-id-1' role='region' class='toggle_wrap  av-title-above'  ><div class='toggle_content invers-color '  itemprop=\"text\" ><p>Antidepressants are used to treat depression and other disorders, such as obsessive compulsive disorder, anxiety disorders (e.g., generalized anxiety disorder and panic disorder) as well as to treat numerous other disorders.<\/p>\n<p>Depending on their mechanism of action and their chemical structure, antidepressants are divided into the following categories:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Tricyclic (Amitriptyline, Clomipramine, Doxepin, Maprotiline, Nortriptyline)<\/li>\n<li>Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs: Moclobemide)<\/li>\n<li>Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs: Fluoxetine, Fluvoxamine, Citalopram, Escitalopram, Sertraline, Paroxetine)<\/li>\n<li>Serotonin &#8211; Norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs: Venlafaxine, Duloxetine)<\/li>\n<li>Norepinephrine \u2013 Dopamin reuptake inhibitors (NDRI: Bupropion)<\/li>\n<li>Serotonin antagonist and reuptake inhibitors (SARI: Trazodone)<\/li>\n<li>Noradrenergic and specific serotonergic antidepressants (Nassa: Mirtazapine)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/section>\n<section class='av_toggle_section av-av_toggle-3b3f20ee1c77141ab963a03482860767'  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/CreativeWork\" ><div role=\"tablist\" class=\"single_toggle\" data-tags=\"{All} \"  ><p id='toggle-toggle-id-2' data-fake-id='#toggle-id-2' class='toggler  av-title-above '  itemprop=\"headline\"  role='tab' tabindex='0' aria-controls='toggle-id-2' data-slide-speed=\"200\" data-title=\"Antipsychotics\" data-title-open=\"\" data-aria_collapsed=\"Click to expand: Antipsychotics\" data-aria_expanded=\"Click to collapse: Antipsychotics\">Antipsychotics<span class=\"toggle_icon\"><span class=\"vert_icon\"><\/span><span class=\"hor_icon\"><\/span><\/span><\/p><div id='toggle-id-2' aria-labelledby='toggle-toggle-id-2' role='region' class='toggle_wrap  av-title-above'  ><div class='toggle_content invers-color '  itemprop=\"text\" ><p>Antipsychotics are used for the treatment of psychotic disorders, such as schizophrenia, but also in the treatment of affective disorders, such as bipolar disorder and depression as well as for the treatment of obsessive compulsory disorder and other disorders.<\/p>\n<p>They are divided into two categories:<\/p>\n<p>a) The first generation, or typical, of which most commonly used in clinical practice are Haloperidol, Chlorpromazine, Levomepromazine, Trifluoperazine, Perphenazine and Zuclopenthixol and<\/p>\n<p>b) The second generation, or atypical, antipsychotics where Amisulpride, Aripiprazole, Ziprasidone, Clozapine, Quetiapine, Olanzapine, Risperidone, Paliperidone and Sertindole belong.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/section>\n<section class='av_toggle_section av-av_toggle-3a86dec64c5285241430c10933c97806'  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/CreativeWork\" ><div role=\"tablist\" class=\"single_toggle\" data-tags=\"{All} \"  ><p id='toggle-toggle-id-3' data-fake-id='#toggle-id-3' class='toggler  av-title-above '  itemprop=\"headline\"  role='tab' tabindex='0' aria-controls='toggle-id-3' data-slide-speed=\"200\" data-title=\"Mood Stabilizers\" data-title-open=\"\" data-aria_collapsed=\"Click to expand: Mood Stabilizers\" data-aria_expanded=\"Click to collapse: Mood Stabilizers\">Mood Stabilizers<span class=\"toggle_icon\"><span class=\"vert_icon\"><\/span><span class=\"hor_icon\"><\/span><\/span><\/p><div id='toggle-id-3' aria-labelledby='toggle-toggle-id-3' role='region' class='toggle_wrap  av-title-above'  ><div class='toggle_content invers-color '  itemprop=\"text\" ><p>The term \u201cmood stabilizers\u201d is used to describe a range of substances, such as lithium and some anticonvulsants, which are mainly used for the treatment of bipolar disorder. These include Benzodiazepines and Buspirone. Hypnotics are used for sleeping success. These include Benzodiazepines, Zolpidem, Zaleplon, Zopiclone and Melatonin.<\/p>\n<p>The use of anxiolytics and hypnotics should be done sparingly and only when necessary because of problems associated with the development of tolerance and dependence on these drugs.
