Many times, the patient will ruminate on a subject for hours daily.<\/p>\n<p>The person may resort to coercive acts, which are repetitive behaviours (e.g. hand washing, tidying, checking), mental acts (e.g., praying, counting, silent repetitions of words), which the person is forced to perform in response to an obsession or in accordance with rules to be applied. The behaviours or the mental acts aim at preventing or reducing distress or preventing some event or situation that the individual sees in horror.
